Salt bars are all the rage right now, but are you trying to figure out if it’s all crap or the best thing ever? Let me help.
Think Spa. Think Luxury. Think You’re Skin’s New Best Friend.
Salt bars aren’t just soap—they’re the overachievers of the soap world. Imagine a bar that exfoliates, detoxifies, and leaves your skin glowing like you just spent a week lounging at a beachside resort (without all that sand in your drawers).
All salt is not created equally. Table salt is what you use to season potatoes. It is Sodium Chloride. It usually contains iodine. Table salt for food is good. Table salt for soap is bad. I use Himalayan Pink Salt. I know, I know. There is controversy about it, but I love it. And I make what I love. If I don’t love it, it doesn’t make it to you.
Let’s dive into the benefits of Himalayan Pink Salt, the star ingredient in my bars.
According to Healthline.com Himalayan Pink Salt contains 84 different minerals. How awesome is that?! All those goodies on my skin, yes please! Now, all those minerals don’t get absorbed through your skin but the ones that do are AMAZING!! Magnesium, calcium, potassium. Let me count the ways.
Magnesium: the MVP of minerals in my opinion. Not only can it help relax those overworked muscles (I see you, stressed-out Momma), but it might also sneak into your lymphatic system through the skin like a ninja delivering zen vibes. The National Health Institute even gave it a gold star, saying magnesium is crucial for keeping your immune system running smoothly. Magnesium may also help to ease migraines, help with fibromyalgia pain, and possibly even help heal wounds. How AWESOME is that??
Next up in the MVP lineup is potassium—the delightful little electrolyte. You’ll find it in bananas, spinach, and (you guessed it) Himalayan Pink Salt! Potassium is basically the skin’s BFF. It helps with hydration, skin cell production, and collagen, and it might even help tackle wrinkles and age spots. So, the next time you munch on veggies, just know they’re not only making your body strong—they’re working wonders on your skin, too!
The final, but not the last, is calcium. We all know that calcium is good for bones. Think of the old milk commercials. But did you know it’s really good for your skin too? Calcium can help improve your skin barrier. Why is that important? Your skin barrier helps to protect the sensitive parts of skin, surprise, surprise by forming a barrier. This helps maintain moisture, helps to protect from those nasty UV rays, and helps keep the skins elasticity. Sounds like a good marriage to me!
So, with all these skin-loving benefits, it’s clear that salt is more than just a seasoning—it’s a secret weapon for your skin. And lucky for you, I’ve harnessed the power of Himalayan Pink Salt and packed it into each of my salt bars. Think of it as a spa treatment in a bar of soap, combining all the good stuff Mother Nature has to offer, with a little added charm.
Are there benefits of Himalayan Pink Salt the same when added to cold process soap? YES!! But it just doesn’t end there. My salt bar will create a spa like experience! Salt bars have a creamy, lotion-like lather that makes regular soap feel like it forgot to RSVP. Once you’ve tried it, there’s no going back. Oh so silky and wonderful. Salt bars gently buff away dead skin, leaving you so soft you’ll swear your clothes fit better.
Making cold process salt bars is a little different than regular cold process soap. All that extra salt (I use 50% of my oil weight) can be drying. A huge contradiction to all the hydrating properties of salt, I know. I add a TON of coconut oil, another drying ingredient in high amounts. How do I keep the moisturizing benefits you ask? I use a super high Super Fat. Like 19% (typical is about 5%). All that extra oil that isn’t saponified (made into soap) counters the drying problems. Sure, it’s got salt, but salt bars won’t leave your skin feeling like a raisin. Thanks to the high oil content, it’s like your skin gets the best of both worlds—smooth and hydrated.
Now for the ugly. Salt can be irritating to very sensitive skin. A salt bar can be irritating even to normal skin if used excessively. Salt can sting. Ever hear the saying rub salt in the wound? It will heal but it will hurt like the dickens. I also want to note that consuming too much magnesium can be harmful. Do your research, people.
While salt bars may not cure eczema, psoriasis or any other condition, it will elevate your self-care routine to new levels! Salt bars aren’t just soap—they’re a self-care revolution. With the power of Himalayan Pink Salt packed into each bar, you’re not just washing your skin—you’re pampering it with nature’s finest minerals. Whether you’re looking to soothe muscles, fight off wrinkles, or just have a moment of luxury in your day, salt bars give you all that and more. So why not treat yourself to a little spa luxury in the form of soap? Your skin (and your soul) will thank you.
And always remember. Sanity is a myth but self-care doesn’t have to be and it should always be this much fun!
